The CT2138 gene of C. tepidum TLS encodes the NP_663012 protein of unknown function with close homologs found in various green sulphur bateria (Chlorobium, Pelodictyon, and Prosthecochloris species). CT2138 has weak (Pfam e-value=0.14), but detectable (Blast e-value=1e-21) similarity to several families of tetratricopeptide repeat (TPR) containing proteins.
The 2hr2 structure belongs to the SCOP all alpha class, TPR-like superfamily [48452], CT2138-like family. A DALI search gives hits with the putative peptidyl-prolyl isomerase PDB:2fbn (Z=16), the SGTA protein PDB:2vyi (Z=16), the PLCR protein PDB:2qfc (Z=16), a putative FK506-binding protein (PDB:1qz2; chain A; DALI Z-score 15.3; RMSD 2.9; 16% sequence identity within 132 superimposed residues), and with the tetratricopeptide repeats of the protein phosphatase 5 (PDB:2bug; DALI Z-score 15.1; RMSD 2.5; 19% sequence identity within 117 superimposed residues).
Analysis of the crystallographic packing of 2hr2 using the PQS server {Henrick, 1998 #73} indicates that a hexamer is the biologically relevant form.
