    The gene SMU.1085 from Streptococcus mutans encodes a domain of peptide chain release factor 1 (RF-1) PF00472.  The protein belongs to the class of multi-domain alpha and beta (a+b) proteins and reveals release factor fold type SCOP75619.  RF1 is a protein that recognizes stop codons UAG and UAA, and promotes the release of a nascent polypeptide from tRNA on the ribosome.  Multiple structures of RF-1 from different organisms have been solved alone (1RQ0Thermotoga maritima) and in complex with ribosome (2B64Thermus thermophilus).
