    Protein Summary

Gene alr5027 from Nostoc sp codes for the NP_489067 amino acid sequence that has similarity to proteins of the 'Pyridoxamin 5'-phosphate oxidase' family (PF01243) and a 'putative heme iron utilization protein' COG (COG0748). The NP_489067 protein shares the same genomic neighborhood as the Alr5028 protein (score 0.8) and could be functionally linked to the uroporphyrinogen decarboxylase hemE (score 0.79), according to the STRING database.

1vl7 structure has structural similarity to proteins belonging to the 'PNP-oxidase-like' family of SCOP (FMN-binding split barrel superfamily and fold), and is classified as a new protein domain within this family. A DALI search for structural similarity provides hits with the C-terminal region of the heme oxygenase Hugz 3gas (Z=18; 38% seq.id.), the PA4388 protein 2arz (Z=17), the ATU2129 protein 3dnh (Z=16) and the repressor 1xhn (Z=14).

Analysis of the crystallographic packing of the protein using the PQS server indicates that a dimer is the biologically relevant form.
