    Protein Summary

The gene TM0748 from Thermotoga maritima encodes the GCD14-like subunit of the RNA methyltransferase complex PF08704 COG2519 E.C.2.1.1.62. Homologs are found in all domains of life. In eukaryotes, this complex is localized in the nucleus.  GCD14 subunit is required for 1-methyladenosine modification and maturation of initiator methionyl-tRNA [Ref].  GCD14 is essential protein required for the initiation of protein synthesis and translational repression of GCN4 mRNA.
